Bug scare

Yams and I took my Dad and stepmom up to Saddlerock today. They loved it and offered a lot of great suggestions. But as we were about to leave, Yams got stung by some type of bug in the eye. A blister developed in the white of his eye. We were pretty freaked out to say the least! We ended up in the ER for two hours and they did a bunch of tests on him. He's okay now, the blister has subsided, and he's keeping a cold compress on his eye.

Lesson learned: Get some Citronella for the wedding day!

After we left the ER we were starving so we had lunch at The Landing which was right on Westlake Lake. It was right next to a really nice restaurant called Boccaccio. We were able to talk to the manager and get some quotes for the rehearsal dinner as a second option instead of the Wine Cellar Room at Westlake Village Inn.

Sign-in Table ideas

This is such a great idea! Your guests fill out postcards that they can choose from a postcard rack and stuff it into a mailbox. The postcards are later mailed out and you receive messages from your guests in the week following the wedding. What a nice way to extend the high of your wedding.

Vintage Straws for Cocktail Hour

These straws are just too cute! I have to have these during our cocktail hour! Paired up with a mason jar and a signature drink, they exude a vintagy charm!

...more card catalog love

I am in love with the first card catalog! How gorgeous is it?! I love how the white labels where exchanged for colorful labels. If I can find one of these in a swap meet, I definitely want to incorporate it into the wedding somehow and perhaps replace the white labels with various color elements in the wedding. As mentioned in a previous post, programs could be placed in certain drawers. Or we could even have escort cards filed alphabetically in the drawers, maybe mixed in with fake library cards.

Distressed Tables

This table from Anthropologie is a cool table for the sign in table. It's super pricey but would love to find something similar to this at a swapmeet and distress it myself.

I like this idea of finding an old cabinet with clear glass doors and painting the back walls of it a different contrasting color. This could be used for either the sign in table and the programs could be placed on the shelves with the doors remaining open. It could also be used behind the bar as a display for the different types of bottles of alcohol.

The next two are great distressed sign in tables or escort card tables. They could also be used as neither but serve as an interesting visual with some flowers on top and drawers overflowing with greenery.

Wedding Dress

I went to look at wedding dresses for the first time yesterday! My mom and I went to Alfred Angelo but unfortunately the bridal consultants had gone home for the day. We were able to at least look around at the dresses. They don't carry every dress in every size and they typically have to order the dresses. It takes about 16-20 weeks for a dress to arrive then another 8 weeks to alter the dress. That's some pressure! I thought I had plenty of time but I need to start dress hunting ASAP!

I'm going to start looking through the heap of bridal magazines I have (bought 3 more yesterday!) and pull some examples of what I like for my next appointment.

We got our DJ!!!

I'm so excited!! We are going to get Richard Blade. THE Richard Blade!! I grew up with him in high school on KROQ and he would do Flashback 80's. Now he has his own radio show on Sirius Satellite.

Yams hasn't heard of him and originally had his reservations about an all 80's wedding reception. We called him yesterday afternoon and spoke to him for about half an hour. Yams wanted to make sure he could cover Old School 90's Hip Hop. He went over his music library and assured us he could play basically anything. Also, his great MCing skills and experience would get our guests on the dance floor. Richard Blade also gave us the number to the groom from the wedding he had DJed the night before. Eric and his wife, Jessica, were also in the same situation MrLovebird and I were in, in that I listened to KROQ growing up and he listened to hip hop. We called Eric and he gave Richard Blade glowing remarks, and I mean glowing! He told us we had to get Richard Blade and if we did, we could basically sit back and relax knowing we wouldn't have to worry about our guests having a good time.

We emailed Richard Blade less than an hour after speaking with him and booked him!!
